Hi there and welcome to my website!
I am a 5th year Ph.D. Candidate in Communication at the University of California, Davis. I research how people interact with each other in online communities and virtual teams, such as open source collaboration (Wikipedia, Github), Massively Multiplayer Online Games (MMOGs), and social networking sites (Facebook, etc.).
Because most people use online communities extensively, studies are beginning to test questions of organizational science in these virtual worlds. I have used mostly event-based archival data to examine people’s interactions through their digital traces. I am interested in how people collaborate based on their positions in different kinds of social networks (social or more task-oriented) in mediated settings. I am especially interested in using my research to explain fundamental communication processes and generalizing across organizations or other online communities.
